| The EMC Directive Certification |
|
| This route can only be used when harmonised standards applicable to the
product have been published in the OJEC. The manufacturer applies the standards
appropriate to their product(s); normally the manufacturer will either perform the tests or can have tests performed by any laboratory; it
does not need any accreditation. However, an accredited laboratory will give much more
confidence in the results and give greater legal protection in the case of a problem.
Testing is not, strictly speaking, mandatory but is clearly advisable. The standards route
can be used for certifying a number of product variants even if only one or two variants
have been tested providing that the manufacturer is confident that they can identify the
worst case product(s). |
| This route must be used when appropriate standards do not exist for the
product(s) concerned. It can also be used to certify product variants or when non-standard
tests have already been carried out on the product. The manufacturer compiles a TCF for
the product(s) and submits it to a Competent Body to obtain a
technical report or certificate. |
| The TCF contains: |
| A general description of the product |
||
| Design and manufacturing drawings together with layout diagrams covering
components, sub-assemblies, circuits, etc. |
||
| Descriptions and explanations needed in order to understand the above
mentioned drawings and diagrams as well as the operational aspects of the product |
||
| List of standards applied in whole or in part and a description of the
solutions adopted in order to comply with the protection requirements of the Directive in
cases where the standards have not been applied |
||
| Design calculation results arising from the EMC Tests |
||
| The technical report or the certificate issued by the Competent Body |
||
| A copy of the EC DoC
(this is not a requirement of the EMC Directive but it and the TCF have to be kept at the
disposal of the component authorities it seems sensible to do so) |
||
| A copy of the instructions for use. |
This is only applicable to apparatus designed for the transmission of
radio communications. Testing and certification by a Notified Body
is mandatory; self-certification is not possible.
